If you need practice in the grammar portion (Part I) of the Writing test, try GRAMMAR BYTES.  This site has interactive exercises which not only tell you whether you have answered correctly, but also provide good explanations of the rules to follow.

This site has links to grammar instruction followed by online quizzes to practice the grammar skills.  Additionally, there are links to instruction in paragraph and essay writing.

 

OWL Online Writing Lab

This is another site that incorporates instruction in both grammar and essay writing.

For guidance in the steps for preparing an essay (Part II), go to ESSAYPUNCH.  Follow the instructions on the screen to create an essay.

Learning Resources - Original Site

For practice in reading nonfiction, you can investigate the Learning Resources site.  This site provides current and past CNN San Francisco bureau news stories.  Each module includes the full text of a news story and interactive activities to test comprehension, as well as other reading skills.  After linking to the site you can click on the "Current Story" or go to the "Story Archives."  After reading a story, choose any of the online activities in the left margin to test your skills.


California Distance Learning Project

Another site which provides a variety of articles to read, as well as online reading comprehension activities is the California Distance Learning Project.  After linking to the site, choose from the list of student activities and follow the directions on the site.  


MysteryNet.com

A fun site that will help you work on your critical reading skills is MysteryNet.com.  On this site you can read short mysteries and try to solve them.  There is even some help with clues!
